The Margaret River Macs Story

Margaret River Macs came into being as a heavenly down south sanctuary, for our family and visitors to this special place on the west coast of Australia.

Our parents, Joyce & Don McKenzie were the motivation for ‘Macs’ … it was their family home and they wished to share their secret part of the world with others who would be appreciative.

The inspiration for creating a place and space for you to experience a truly memorable stay came from reading a passage on Kairos Time in Sarah Ban Breathnach’s Simple Abundance.

After a few loving touch ups we opened the door to other travellers in September 2005.

Our aim is to provide a luxury stay in a self contained fully-furnished house so you can experience a truly memorable stay in the famed Margaret River food & wine region.

We have lovingly furnished Margaret River Macs to create a short-stay haven and a distinctive alternative to a hotel room for those who appreciate a higher standard in accommodation when they travel, and who may want to immerse themselves in the history of the Margaret River region.

We want you to arrive and instantly feel at home, slow down and find the place inspiring, appreciate our thoughtful design and enjoy the fabulous location in one of the world’s most beautiful beach side food & wine regions.

To date we have had wonderful guests stay who treasure the place in the same way that we do … and who respect the privilege of staying somewhere that is more than just a standard hotel room.

When you do stay, you may have contact with a few extraordinary people that know how to create the Margaret River Macs experience for you …

• Shannon is the main contacts for your booking enquiries and requests (we provide you with the warm & friendly smile over the phone and via email) and also our never-tiring property manager (who keeps the place sparkling for your arrival)
• Adrian & Nic are our gardeners, and Shane is our lawn guru, who tend to the elegantly ageing cottage garden and keep it cheerful in spite of the country’s drought conditions
• Peter is our maintenance man who toils with repetitive touch ups to the house fabric (originally lovingly created by my great-grandfather Arthur Abbott)
